Welcome to ECCO!

Educators in Context and Community (ECCO) is a comprehensive, career-based, professional development, learning community for education majors and others who wish to work with children. We focus on acclimating educators to the diverse cultures and communities - urban, rural, and suburban - which their students bring with them into the classroom. We focus on preparing our members both socially and emotionally for the rigors of teaching. We focus on cultural competence - being aware of and able to work in diverse settings with diverse students. We focus on educators knowing themselves, their students, the community, and their profession. ECCO is open to all education majors and class standings.

-Dr. Patrick Vrooman

A Call to Attention

Field Placements

Each ECCO member has a field placement in nearby schools every single semester. ECCO partners with many schools, such as Discovery Academy, Maritime Academy, L. Hollingworth School, and the PATHE Center, in order to ensure that every ECCO student gets a minimum of 50 hours of field placement every semester.

Grant Program

The grant program is a partnership between ECCO and our field placement schools. Teachers can work with their ECCO intern to apply for up to $500 to spend on their classroom.

Did you know?

All ECCO members have to enroll in RESC 4700C (weekly seminar), but ECCO members can also enroll in ECCO sections of other classes, such as EDTL 2010, GSW 1110/1120, STATS 1150C, and EDTL 2300.
